Intro to UX for IoT: videos

I’ve chunked up the talk I did at YConf into a few shorter videos, which serve as introductions to key topics.

Part 1: technology

A very basic introduction to the key questions designers and other non-technical people should ask about the technology of an IoT product, to understand how that may shape the user experience:

Part 2: value propositions

Some simple points for thinking about value in IoT products: what problem does the product solve for the user, what risks might be introduced by using IoT to solve that problem, and balancing the cost to the user and the cost to the business of providing the service in a fair value exchange.

Part 3: design

Designing not just for apps and hardware but for distributed UX: tips and techniques for creating coherent experiences across diverse hardware and software interfaces and the networks which connect them.

Part 4: team collaboration

Techniques for fostering effective collaboration in cross-functional IoT teams, particularly between design and engineering.
